Itinerary:
Day #1 Anchorage. Arrive in Anchorage, where the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Perhaps enjoy a leisurely stroll or start exploring this eclectic metropolis.
Day #2 Anchorage. This morning, meet your Local Host, who will offer suggestions for exploring Anchorage. Included in your Monograms vacation is admission to the ANCHORAGE MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND ART. You may also wish to sample some Alaskan seafood in one of the city’s waterfront restaurants, shop for souvenirs in downtown, or explore the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, where you’ll enjoy views of the ocean and maybe even spot a bald eagle or moose.
Day #3 Anchorage–Alaska Railroad–Denali National Park. This morning, board the ALASKA RAILROAD for a scenic journey to Denali National Park. Sit back and enjoy the comfortable seating and large picture windows. The train’s first stop is Talkeetna, a small town with a mining history and now a popular take-off point for climbers to Mount McKinley. Along today’s journey, be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife and magnificent views of Mount McKinley. Arrive Denali in the late afternoon and transfer to your hotel.
Day #4 Denali National Park. Today, explore the beauty of Denali National Park. Included is a 7-hour TUNDRA WILDERNESS TOUR that travels deep into the national park. Watch for bear, caribou, sheep, and moose as your driver guide highlights the park’s features. During your free time, you may wish to take a thrilling helicopter ride over the glaciers, or experience the Cabin Nite Dinner Theater, where you’ll enjoy hearty Alaskan fare and be transported back to the Gold Rush era with songs, stories, and dance.
Day #5 Denali National Park–Alaska Railroad–Fairbanks. There’s time this morning to enjoy more of Denali National Park. Perhaps take a guided ATV tour, experience whitewater rafting on the Nenana River, or visit a local husky kennel where you’ll meet champion sled dogs, cuddle with the puppies, and learn what it takes to cross the finish line with a champion Iditarod. This afternoon, re-board the ALASKA RAILROAD and pass through spectacular Healy Canyon, where the surging waters of the Nenana River cut through the steep-sided cliffs. Arrive in Fairbanks, the golden heart of Alaska.
Day #6 Fairbanks. Enjoy your included CRUISE aboard the Riverboat Discovery today. The cruise will take you down the Chena and Tanana Rivers while narrators give interesting information about living in the interior of Alaska. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Fairbanks. Why not try your hand at gold panning, browse one of the local art galleries, or enjoy a traditional Alaska salmon bake?
Day #7 Fairbanks. Transfer to the Fairbanks International Airport for your flight home.
