Itinerary:

Day #1 Halifax. Arrive in Halifax and pick up your rental car at the airport.
Day #2 Halifax. The day is yours to explore the city of Halifax. In the heart of downtown you’ll find art galleries, museums, shopping, sidewalk cafés, and lively pubs.
Day #3 Halifax–Baddeck. Travel north and see remote fishing villages perched on rocky inlets. Stop in Sherbrooke Village, where century-old buildings have been authentically restored. Continue north and cross the Canso Causeway to arrive on Cape Breton Island. Drive north to the village of Baddeck on the shores of beautiful Bras d’Or Lake. Perhaps visit the Alexander Graham Bell historic site. Approximately 218 miles/351 km.
Day #4 Baddeck (Cabot Trail). A full day at leisure to explore the 185-mile-long Cabot Trail. This loop travels through charming communities, breathtaking scenery, and Cape Breton Highlands National Park, which is rich in wildlife. Here you have the opportunity to see whales, moose, black bears, bald eagles, and many species of sea and shore birds.
Day #5 Baddeck–Charlottetown. Return to mainland Nova Scotia and ferry across the Northumblerland Strait to Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.). Continue to Charlottetown, the “Birthplace of Canada,” and savor the island’s pasture lands and sandy beaches, once settled by the French, Scottish, and Irish. Approximately 201 miles/322 km.
Day #6 Charlottetown. The day is yours to explore Charlottetown or to discover more of this beautiful island by car.
Day #7 Charlottetown–Saint John. Today, cross the Confederation Bridge into New Brunswick en route to Saint John. Travel through Fundy National Park and enjoy a stop in Hopewell Cape, where curious rock formations have been sculpted by the mighty Fundy tides. Approximately 249 miles/401 km.
Day #8 Saint John–Digby. Ferry across the Bay of Fundy to Digby, Nova Scotia. Take some time to explore the Evangeline Trail, which brings to life the tales of the Acadians. Perhaps visit nearby Port Royal, the first permanent European settlement in Canada. In Digby, mix with the locals at the historic waterfront lined with shops, cafés, and restaurants. Approximately 54 miles/86 km.
Day #9 Digby–Halifax. Return to Halifax and drop off your rental car prior to departure. Approximately 141 miles/227 km.
